Update to workforce tax credit program would provide ‘countless’ benefits, backers say

As workforce issues continue to be front and center for senior living providers, the industry is backing the reintroduction of legislation that would update a 26-year-old workforce opportunity tax credit aimed at improving workforce hiring and retaining.

The American Seniors Housing Association, Argentum, the American Health Care Association and the Society for Human Resource Management are among the groups that signed onto a Feb. 18 coalition letter  supporting the Improve and Enhance the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act.

HR 1177 / S 492 was introduced by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) to strengthen the work opportunity tax credit, or WOTC, to help disadvantaged individuals find employment. The WOTC provides a federal tax credit to employers who invest in American workers who face barriers to employment, including eligible veterans, low-income individuals and people with disabilities.
